Add to Home Screen

You can add the school chatbot to your phone or tablet’s home screen. Once added, it opens full-screen with its own icon — just like a normal app — so you don’t have to find the link in your browser every time. There’s nothing to download from an app store.

This works on iPhone, iPad, Android phones, and Android tablets, on both public chatbot links and the main chatbot you sign into.

On iPhone or iPad

You’ll need to use Safari for this — it doesn’t work in Chrome on iOS.

  1. Open the chatbot link in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen (a square with an arrow pointing up).
  3. Scroll down the share sheet and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Edit the name if you like (e.g. “School Helper”) and tap Add in the top right.

The chatbot’s icon now appears on your home screen. Tap it any time to open the chatbot full-screen.

If you don't see "Add to Home Screen" in the share sheet, scroll down — it's usually below the row of apps. You can also tap Edit Actions at the bottom to pin it to the top of the share sheet for next time.

On Android

The easiest way is to use Chrome (the same approach works in most other Android browsers — the menu wording may differ).

  1. Open the chatbot link in Chrome.
  2. Look for the blue banner at the top of the screen that says “Add to your home screen for quick access” and tap Add.
  3. Confirm the name and tap Add again.

If the banner isn’t showing:

  1. Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top right of Chrome.
  2. Tap Add to Home screen or Install app.
  3. Confirm the name and tap Add.

The chatbot’s icon now appears on your home screen and in your app drawer.

After You’ve Added It

Once installed:

  • The chatbot opens full-screen — no browser bars, no tabs.
  • The app icon uses the school’s branding if your school has set a custom logo.
  • Notifications, sign-in, and chatbot responses all work exactly as they do in the browser.

To remove it later, long-press the icon on your home screen and choose Delete app (iOS) or Uninstall / Remove (Android). This only removes the shortcut — your chatbot account is unaffected.

Good to Know

  • The “Add to Home Screen” prompt only shows up the first time you visit on a device. If you dismiss it, it’ll come back after about a month — or you can install manually using the steps above.
  • The shortcut works for any chatbot link your school shares with you — the icon opens straight into that chatbot.
  • Whatever you do in the installed app stays in that one chatbot — it doesn’t affect other apps or websites on your device.
  • Updates happen automatically the next time you open the app and have an internet connection. There’s no version to keep up to date manually.
  • If you have multiple school chatbots (e.g. a parents’ chatbot and a sixth-form chatbot), you can add each one to your home screen separately.
