Cookie Policy

Last updated: 26 April 2026

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which ones Ask.School uses, and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember your session, keep you signed in, and measure how the site is used. Some are technically essential; others are optional.

We also use closely related browser storage (such as localStorage) where it serves the same purpose as a cookie.

Cookies and storage we use

Strictly necessary

These are required for the site to function. They cannot be disabled in our preferences — only by your browser settings, which may break the site.

NameWhere setPurposeDuration
sessionidask.schoolAuthenticates a signed-in school administrator. The session itself is stored encrypted on our servers; the cookie holds only an opaque identifier.Session (until sign-out or expiry)
csrftokenask.schoolProtects forms and API requests against cross-site request forgery.1 year
cookie_consent (in localStorage)ask.schoolRecords your choice on the cookie banner so we don't show it again.12 months

Analytics

We use a single analytics service to understand traffic on our public marketing pages (the home page, pricing, blog, contact, and policy pages). Analytics cookies do not run inside school dashboards or chat sessions.

NameWhere setPurposeDuration
_gaask.schoolDistinguishes unique visitors for Google Analytics 4.2 years
_ga_ZCZW0EE2G6ask.schoolStores session state for Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-ZCZW0EE2G6).13 months

Error monitoring (optional, when enabled)

When the optional Sentry integration is enabled by Ask.School, the Sentry browser SDK may set short-lived storage entries on sentry.io to deduplicate error reports. No personal data is sent in these reports.

What we don't use

We don't use marketing or advertising cookies. We don't load social-network share buttons or embedded ad pixels. We don't use cross-site tracking cookies.

Your choices

  • Cookie banner. When you first visit ask.school you'll see a cookie banner with Accept and Decline options. Your choice is stored for 12 months.
  • Browser controls. Every modern browser lets you view, restrict, or delete cookies. See aboutcookies.org or your browser's documentation.
  • Google Analytics opt-out. Google publishes a browser add-on that disables GA across all sites.

Disabling strictly-necessary cookies will sign you out and may break parts of the site.

Changes

If we add or remove cookies we will update this page and the date above. Material changes are also flagged in our Privacy Policy.
